Due to all of the studies which conflict each other and differing opinions it's no wonder people are confused when it comes to assessing the problems with the low carb diets.

Whichever diet it may be, be it atkins or South Beach or another type of low carb diet up to 30 million are currently trying low carb diets.

Some say that because of the amount of carbs currently in our diets that is why we have such massive obesity in the world today along wih increased diabetes and certain other serious health issues. Others says that it is due to the fact that we just consume to many calories today rather than just attribute it to increased carb intake. They also state that lack of exercise is another major cause.

In addition there is a general decline in those of us that eat grains and enough fruit and veg. As low carb diets do not contain enough of these elements of a healthy diet there is concern that this will lead to a general deficiency in required nutrients such as Vitamin C, fiber, folic acid and several other essential minerals.

Irrespective of the type of diet chosen by an individual significant weight loss can be achieved in the early stages.

However, the key to a successful diet is to lose the weight and keep it off which means a change in lifestyle habits forever not just to get the initial weight off.

Low Carb Diets - Their Differences

The weight loss on low carb diets is a function of caloric restriction and diet duration, and not with reduced carbohydrate intake. This finding suggests that if you want to lose weight, you should eat fewer calories and do so over a long time period.

Low Carb Diets - How Safe Are They?

There is not much evidence in existence to show how safe a low carb diet is over the long term. Despite concerns from several parties there is nothing to substantiate any adverse effects, short term, in cholesterol, insulin, glucose and blood pressure levels. It has been pointed out that losing weight anyway helps in these areas and therefore may offset the negative effect of the low carb diet itself. The long range weight change for low-carb and other types of diets is similar.

Ketosis - What Is It?

Most low carb diets cause ketosis. Some of the potential consequences are nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and confusion.

During initial phases of low carb dieting some fatigue and constipation may be encountered. Generally, these symptoms dissipate quickly. Ketosis may also give the breath a fruity odor, somewhat like nail-polish remover (acetone).

The longer range success rate for low carb and other types of diets is similar.

Despite their popularity, no much information exists about the long term safety of low carb diets.
Boredom usually overcomes willpower due to restricted choice. Which results in weight going back on once the low carb regime has ceased.

Strictly low carb diets produce ketosis which is an abnormal and potentially stressful metabolic state. Under some circumstances this might cause health related complications.

The diet that you eventually choose should be a map for a lifestyle change which remains with you for the rest of your life. Don't look at a diet as a short term thing but a long term partner in achieving your weight loss and health goals. If you cannot see yourself sticking to the rules for more than a couple of weeks or so then that diet is not for you. By the time you finish reading this article, my hope is, that you will understand the importance of drinking water and that your drinking habits will change for the better. For your health's sake.

We tend to get too busy to stop for a thirst quenching drink of "nature's nectar". Or we prefer a burst of flavor in our mouth, so we choose anything but water.

It's unbelievable, but by the time we feel thirsty we are already dehydrated. What surprises me even more is that we don't know what to drink when we are dehydrated. We don't understand the benefits of drinking water.

The importance of drinking water is that it is necessary for the body to digest and absorb nutrients and vitamins. Your blood is thicker and the body has to work harder to cause it to circulate. It's harder to concentrate because the brain becomes less active. Your body feels tired.

You have little or no energy.

The "refreshment from heaven" detoxifies the liver and kidneys and flushes the system of waste. Fiber needs the benefits of drinking water to do that. Without it the good fiber turns bad which causes constipation and discomfort.

Your main goal for building a better body is to look and feel as good as you can. To do this you must balance development in the upper and lower body. Even specific body parts must show balance. For example, you can't improve your upper arms without also improving your chest and shoulders. Select exercises based on their ability to isolate and shape specific muscles. This is not as easy as it seems. On the one hand, you must do "whole body" large muscle exercises ? such as squats ? because they are very effective at toning muscle while helping you maintain body symmetry (size balance between muscle groups). However, you must also do exercises that isolate specific muscles and muscle groups. You can't build a better body until you can choose exercises that target muscle shape as well as definition.

Scientists have an amazing tool called electromyography (EMG) that shows how much muscles work during specific exercises such as benches, squats, curls and sit-up. EMG measures the electrical activity of muscles. Scientists place electrodes over a muscle belly. The harder the muscle works, the more electricity is measured on the EMG. By placing the EMG electrodes (pads that pick up the electrical signal is the muscles) on key muscle groups, scientists can tell which exercises are best for shaping and defining.

How EMG Works

Muscles are divided into groups of muscle fibers and nerves called motor units. A motor unit is made up of a nerve cell and between three and 100 muscle fibers. All the fibers in the motor unit contract when your nervous system (brain and spinal cord) turns on the unit.

You have fast and slow motor units. The fast motor units (Type ll) are powerful buy they fatigue very fast. The slower units can go all day. But they aren't very strong. Your body turns on the large fast units when it wants to pick up large weights or move very fast. It calls on slower, smaller units when it doesn't need to produce much force. You use mainly slow motor unit to stand in line at the grocery store. Your body uses small motor units first and only call on the big ones when it needs to life a heavy load.

In other words, when you want to exert more force in order to lift weight, your nervous system turns on more motor units. Your muscles also generate more electricity, which scientists can measure using EMG.

EMG has been around for more than 60 years. However, it wasn't units recently that we had portable units that allow us to study individual weight training exercises. The research has given us important information for optimal training.

. When a muscle contracts, its origin and insertion ? the places when it attaches to the skeleton and causes movements ? move toward each other. This means that the entire muscle contracts. It is difficult or impossible to work specific parts of most muscles.

. You can activate and isolate parts of some muscles because of the way individual fibers are arranged within them ? arrangements that scientists call pin nation. In a muscle such as the deltoid (round shoulder muscle), the fibers run in many directions, so it is possible to isolate parts of it. This is more difficult in the rectus abdominis (top ab muscle) because the fibers run lengthwise. However, even in the abs, EMG studies show regional muscle activation. What we don't know is whether it does any good to try to isolate parts of the muscle.

. The more shapely and defined your muscles become, the more difficult it is to train them further. The EMG studies show that only higher intensities will have an effect.

. Many exercises can work muscles equally well if you push hard enough. For example, you can exercises your biceps equally well doing standing and preacher curls ? if you push to max on each of the lifts. However, preacher curls isolate the biceps better because you can't use body sway to help you get the reps.

EMG has many problems, but it is good for telling us whether an exercise uses a muscle. In other words, we can tell whether a muscle is turned on or off. Based on EMG studies and measurements, these 12 exercises are proven to isolate and shape the most important muscle groups in your body for achieving the perfect body.

For building a better body

CHEST

Incline Bench Press

You may use the Smith machine or barbell for this exercise.

The technique: Lying on an incline bench on your back with your feet on the floor, grasp the bar with palms upward and hands shoulder-width apart. Lower the bar to your chest. Then return it to the starting position. Using a wider grip will slightly increase the load. Dumbell bench press is also an excellent chest exercise.

Dumbbell Flyes

The technique: Lying on a flat or incline bench on your back with your feet on the floor, grasp the dumbbells with palms facing each other and arms extended above your chest. Lower the dumbbells in a wide arc to the side until the dumbbells reach the chest and shoulder level and you feel a stretch in your chest muscles. Keep the dumbbells in line with your elbows and shoulders. Pull the dumbbells toward each other in a wide arc back to the starting position.

SHOULDERS

Shoulder Press

(Military Press)

This exercise can be done standing or seated. Standing presses load the muscles in the legs, hips, and trunk to stabilize the body. Seated presses better isolate the shoulder muscles. You can use the Smith machine or barbells and dumbbells.

The technique: Seated or standing, grasp the weight with your palms facing away from you Push the weight overhead until your arms are extended. Then return to the starting position.

Seated Side Laterals

The technique: Hold a dumbbell in each hand and sit on a bench. Lift your arms up and out to the sides until the dumb-bells are at shoulder height. Slowly lower the weights back down.

Rear Deltoid Raises

The technique: Hold a dumbbell in each hand and lie on an incline bench. Lean forward so that your chest is flat on the bench. Let your arms hang down. Raise your arms up and out to the sides, bending your elbows until they are level with your shoulders. Squeeze your shoulder blades together as you lift. Slowly lower your arms back down.

Hair Loss Symptom: Spotting the Signs

Androgenetic Alopecia

Men and Hair Loss - Among men, this condition may first be noticed in a thinning of the temple hair strands and a receding hair line. Alopecia Aratea

Although it is not as common as androgenetic alopecia, it is also another cause for hair loss. It is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system inexplicably attacks the hair follicles resulting in the loss of hair. The main hair loss symptom of this condition is the appearance of round patches or areas in the scalp without hair while the rest of the scalp may retain hair strands.

Telogen Effluvium

Stress and Hair Loss - This hair loss condition is believed to occur most among people who are subjected to a lot of physical, emotional or mental stress. In this condition, the hair loss symptom is a general increase in hair shedding. This happens because a lot of hair strands suddenly shift from the growing to the resting phase and fall off in approximately 3 months or so.

Traction Alopecia Tight Hairstyles - This is the type of hair loss that is primarily caused by hairstyles that are too tight. These styles include braids, corn rolls and ponytails. When the hair is bound too tightly, the strands may get uprooted resulting in a hair loss symptom of small areas or without hair. The problem here is that if the damage is extensive, the scalp may begin to heal and the damage may eventually develop into scar tissue. This makes hair rehabilitation and further hair growth difficult, if not, impossible.
Others

Vitamin Deficiency - A hair loss symptom may also be obvious under other conditions or situations aside from those mentioned above. It has been discovered for example that individuals who are deficient in some vitamins and minerals like biotin, iron and vitamin B6 may suffer from hair loss.

Other Medications - In some cases, an obvious hair loss symptom may be noticed if a person is under medications like blood thinners, steroids and cancer medicines. A person could also suffer from hair loss due to very severe illness like thyroid disease, severe anemia, severe infection and lupus.

A two-step treatment in which a light-sensitive drug is used to damage the abnormal blood vessels. A doctor injects the drug into the bloodstream to be absorbed by the abnormal blood vessels in the eye.

Henry Small's Secret (Part II, to 'Cassandra's Delicatessen' - The Aneurysm)

Henry Small ceased dancing, looked at his wife Linda Macaulay, they had been married two year now, said,

"I'm really too old for this, I'm thirty, and so are you."

She watched him, then responded,

"Yes," she said, "yes-but what?"

"I drove by the old delicatessen yesterday, got thinking about Cassandra, we should visit her up in Wisconsin. Tell her we got married. Or perhaps I should, and say that for you," said Henry.

"I know she used to be your girlfriend, I suppose I have to say that for you (her hand buttoning the top button of her blouse, they had stopped dancing moved off the dance floor to their table almost unknowingly) but if you need, I can take the strain off of you, if you go, don't come back."
He drew out his wallet, leather, and a picture of her, it was roughly creased and soiled, from what it looked like, much usage, or so it would seem, handed it to her, clumsily

"No allowances I suppose?"

"I was there a week ago, nothing looks the same since the new owner last year bought the place, the Pitmen's, they have a cut son, he's only fourteen but going to be a honey when he grows up, they are from Minnesota, someplace by the Canadian Boarder," said Linda.

"You like to show your control over me by getting me jealous, don't you?"

"Funny you say that, because it works too."

"I assure you my dear; it never looks the same after you have it."

"My dear husband, it all depends what side you're looking at."

"Oh," Henry said, "you have allowances. Yes, yes, I suppose you would."

Out of his walled he pulled a whitish piece of paper, he was going to say something, she looked, then he put it back, he already knew what it read, he had not told Linda about it though, not yet, and wasn't sure if he was going to, it read "Prominent Fayetteville, woman, Cassandra Hightower dies from aneurysm... she was 29-years old."

"I want to see that paper," said Linda, after having torn up Cassandra's picture.
Henry pulled it out again, showed it to her.
