A healthy balanced diet that includes fish oil for cardiovascular health can massively reduce your chance of heart disease and even if you have already been diagnosed, a healthy diet can protect your heart against further problems.

Fresh fruit and vegetables: Everyone knows that eating the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables a day for a healthy and balanced diet, but not many of us do it.

The thought of fruit and vegetables fills many people with the notion of endless preparation and boring tasting flavours. But it does not have to be this way.

Many of the most delicious fruit contains the highest concentrate of anti oxidants. And a glass of pure fruit juice also counts as one of your five a day. You can even eat the tinned and frozen variety of fruit and veg, making light of the preparation time.

Too much fat is obviously going to be bad for your heart. The fat that you need to watch out for is saturated fat. This fat has an extremely bad effect on your cholesterol and increases your risk of heart disease.

Saturated fats are found in a lot of ready meals, fast food and processed food.

There are however good fats. Yes, I know that this contradicts the last point, but it is the truth! Oily fats found in fish and nuts and are natural fats.

These fats actually help to break down man made fats. And adding some capsules of fish oil for cardiovascular health is the easiest way to get this nutrition in your system if you don't like to eat fish.

If you do like to eat fish you should aim to eat at least two portions of oily fish such as mackerel and salmon a week. Eating oily fish can drastically improve your chances of survival after a heart attack as the body needs the natural fatty acids.

Salt has been in our diets for thousands of years, and at one point it was necessary to preserving food. We no longer have that worry and should be ditching the salt!

Too much salt can increase your blood pressure putting a strain on your heart. Try to season your food with herbs and spices instead.

Smoking as well as being a drain on your pocket is also a drain on your heart. Smoking decreases your health and makes your heart work doubly hard. If you are serious about having a healthy heart it is essential that you quit smoking.

Finally alcohol; it is no secret that alcohol is bad for your health, but did you realise just how much? Drinking just one unit too much each day will raise your blood pressure. The empty calories will make you gain wait and all of this is putting a massive strain on your heart.

Following these simple rules, partaking in gentle exercise, and adding some fish oil for cardiovascular health to your daily food plan you will be benefiting your health and more importantly your heart.
